Its Spring!

April 17, 2015

Hello everyone, I thought you might like to meet this cheeky chappy. I call him "Jack Hare". There are lots of brown hares in the fields around my village - they are almost impossible to see - I usually catch a glimpse of them disappearing into a hedge or from a great distance as I drive around the lanes. I have waited for hours at fieldsedge in an attemp to see them, but in vain. Until one day I had the most unnerving experience. A large buck hare jumped out of the hedge into the road infront of my car. Of course I slowed to a stop fully expecting this shy creature to turn tail or make a dash for the other side of the road. It did neither, instead it set bolt upright and stared at me. I moved the car forward exceptionally slowly expecting the hare to flee at any moment. But it continued to sit upright on the edge of the road and boldly stared me eye ball to eye ball as I drove past.

The hares self-confidance and bold manner was totally unexpected. The animal was so self aware as it watched me drive by that I could not help but think of Hitchcock's "The Birds" and wonder if he knew something I did not! Anyway enjoy.
